Maria Sherman, Owner
Maria began her yoga journey on January 2nd, 2014 when she walked into her first yoga class. Her nervousness (and sweaty palms) almost forced her to leave. As she turned to go, her instructor looked up and asked, “Are you Maria?”. The genuine care and inclusiveness she felt from that very first yoga class has endeared her to the practice for the past nine years. Maria’s initial reason for beginning yoga was to gain flexibility while training for a half marathon. However, she soon fell in love with the mindful aspects of yoga and the benefits that she saw in her body. In 2022 Maria completed her 200 hour teaching training. She is inspired and motivated by helping her students experience this practice that has meant so much to her own life.
Maria became the owner of Lakeview Yoga in July 2023.
Kate Olson, Instructor
Kate has been teaching yoga for over 15 years. She is known for her fun and intelligent sequencing, creative metaphors, and an ability to make EVERYONE feel welcome.
When she first began to practice yoga in the 1990’s, Kate was often the only “flexibility challenged” student in studios full of dancers and naturally flexible people. Her journey to honor and practice within her own body and over 20 years of study and experience informs Kate’s teaching.
Kate is an E-RYT 500. She is also a certified Relax and Renew© Trainer, studying under Judith Hanson Lasater. Her teaching is influenced by the many teachers she has studied with over the years including Chrissy Carter, Christy Mackenzie, Richard Freeman, Rodney Yee, Doug Keller, and Leslie Kaminoff.
Kate teaches private and semi-private yoga sessions at Lakeview Yoga by appointment. Learn more at kateolsonyoga.com.
Denise Schmitt, Instructor
Denise attended her first yoga class in 2002. After steady and continued practice, she noticed not only increased physical strength but also an unexplained happiness and peace. Yoga was her answer to balance and self-acceptance.
With a background in nursing, Denise is drawn to the healing aspect of yoga. She strives to help others find in themselves the peace, contentment, and strength that she gains from her own practice. She strongly believes that yoga can benefit everyone and that everyone can practice yoga, regardless of age, body type, personality or physical restrictions.
In 2012 Denise completed her 200 hour teacher training with Donna Dyer at Yoga H'Om in Pittsburgh. When not practicing yoga, Denise works as a registered nurse in research and enjoys reading, crafting, being outdoors, and spending time with her husband and two daughters.
Summer Voelker, Instructor
After years of neglect to her mental and physical health, 2012 was the year Summer found a regular yoga practice and discovered all of the benefits it provides. This regular practice, accompanied by Summer’s newfound clarity, enthusiasm, and desire to serve made the decision to transition to teaching an easy one. In 2017 Summer received her 200 hour certification with Jennifer Ferris-Glick, formerly of Illume Pittsburgh. Her passion for relaxation and energy work and her desire to learn and share more with her students motivated her in completing a 50 hour Yin Yoga certification with Bernie Clark in 2020. Her goal for every practice is that you leave feeling centered, opened, and deeply connected.
Summer is also a spouse and mom, a Reiki Master, a Pennsylvania Master Naturalist, and burgeoning flower farmer. She enjoys hiking/wandering, reading, cold plunging, hot sauna-ing, connecting with loved ones, and holding this precious life with profound reverence and gratitude.

Snigdha Sinha, Instructor
My passion for yoga dates back to 1998 when I first started yoga in college, fascinated by the practice ever since. I have always felt the urge to be able to share it with others and this led me into taking foundation course at Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga (India) in 2010. There I was introduced to Hatha Yoga. Using your breath to guide you through asanas (poses), holding asanas and pranayama (breath work) are integral part of my yoga practice.Yoga is for everyone and helps us lead a balanced life nourishing our body, mind and soul.
Apart from being a yoga teacher I am a mom, wife and a homemaker. I enjoy spending time with my family, biking and cooking. I have a keen interest in holistic nutrition as well.
Chrissy Sileo, Instructor
Chrissy first walked into a yoga studio 10 years ago at the encouragement of a friend, and immediately fell in love with the practice. Initially drawn to the physical side of yoga, it is the mental aspects of yoga, and overall euphoric state that keep her coming back.
After completing her 200-hour teacher training through Yoga H’Om in Robinson, she is currently studying "sustainable yoga" with Brea Johnson of Heart and Bones Yoga. Deeply rooted in the belief that “ yoga meets you where you are” Chrissy’s classes are accessible to all levels and abilities. She is particularly grateful to Kate and the Lakeview Yoga community for the opportunity to teach and is excited to share her enthusiasm for the practice with others.
When not her mat Chrissy enjoys travelling, reading, cooking, baking, spending time with her family and friends and most of all going on walks with her dog.
Jamie Thornton, Instructor
Jamie has been practicing yoga for almost 30 years. She began her serious study of yoga in Boston where she completed her first yoga teacher training with Judith Baker at FRA. She has also studied with Shiva Rea and Bo Forbes. After moving to Pittsburgh, Jamie completed the 2010 Intensive Teacher Training with 3rd Street Yoga and Schoolhouse Yoga in Pittsburgh with Joanne Vandenhengel. She continued formal study of yoga, pranayama and meditation with Cyndi Lee at various sites in the country. A life-long teacher, Jamie continues to relish the satisfaction one gets from teaching. Off the mat, the most valuable thing she has learned in her study is that yoga coaxes us to learn and marvel at the way the body and mind are so intricately and wondrously connected. This recognition brings her glimpses of wisdom; and even bits of wisdom is reason enough to practice yoga forever!
